On the Northeast Asian peninsula, there is a territory known as Korea, called Choson in the North and Hanguk in the South in Korean. This region is divided between two separate sovereign states: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea known as North Korea and the Republic of Korea as we call South Korea. The Korean Peninsula and the surrounding area began to be inhabited around 700,000 years ago. Initially, Korea's narrative can be segmented into three fundamental phases: the prehistoric and ancient periods, the three kingdoms that shaped its history, and the advent of the modern era.
